The C2C Challenge – June 8th & 9th
This is the first C2C Challenge of the season. Following the usual routine: meet up at Sunderland at 0500 on Saturday morning to take the coach to Whitehaven. We sort the camp, you do the cycling. The rest is in the lap of the gods.
The 2013 June Challenge takes two days, riding through the Northern Lakes and over the Pennines stopping off in Alston, at the 70-mile halfway point.
This is the ultimate ride through the heartlands of unspoilt Lakelands – through villages just off the beaten track. From Whitehaven over Whinlatter Pass to Keswick, on to Penrith and then up into the Pennines via cinematic Alston and the high wilderness of Northumberland and Co Durham.
The C2C is rightly the most popular of Britain’s great shore-to-shore odysseys. If you want to join us, book fast as numbers will be limited.
Suitable for road bikes, though we would advise using winter tyres as a couple of sections of traffic-free involve cinder paths along disused railway routes.
If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to email me: mark@baytreepress.com or simply call 07767 893790.
PLEASE NOTE:
The format will be much the same as last September, with coaches leaving Sunderland at 5.45am on Saturday June 8 so you will need to gather at 0515 to register.
The cost will be £85 and includes transport from Sunderland to Whitehaven, baggage transfer to Alston, plus campsite and breakfast. We will deliver yours bags and tents to the finish point at the marina in Sunderland
You won’t need a pass or permit for the car park, but please note that cars are parked at their owners risk. For those with satnav, the postcode is SR6 0DD
Meals
We will be serving a 3 course dinner at the campsite on Saturday night, as we have done for the last 4 years. You will be able to make your reservation online shortly, but please feel free to indicate your intention with an email if you wish. It’s a great way to unwind after a long day pedalling.
3-courses: £16. Hearty soup, chicken tajine (lovely North African stew), and a pudding yet to be decided.
Let us know your views about beer and wine!
Let us know if you’d like beer or wine with your meal and we’ll arrange this.
