FAQ
Does my entry fee include Medal and T-Shirt?
Yes, your £75 registration fee includes Medal and T-Shirt.
What else do I get for my money?
Your registration fee also covers transport, campsite and breakfast (and all aspects of organisation and planning). We are also reliant upon sponsorship money and donations.
What happens at the end?
You dip your wheels in the briny at Roker Marina. A photographer will be on hand to record the event, should you wish. You are then invited to cycle the short trip to the National Glass Centre where you will be provided with much needed refreshments and goody bag provided by Sunderland City Council. This is just next to the car park where you started off. Those who have parked their cars in Sunderland may avoid the return trip to central Newcastle. If you do need to get back into town you can jump on a train from the centre of Sunderland (but please note: bicycles are NOT allowed on the Metro.)
How much Sponsorship do I have to raise in order to take part?
There isn't a minimum limit, but as much as you can. We are trying to raise as much as possible.
What sort of bike do I need?
The route is a mix of cycle path, country lanes and urban streets so the best bet is a tourer hybrid. Full suspension mountain bikes with nobbly tyres are not necessary and lightweight slick 23c racers will struggle but a road bike with semi-slicks will be fine.
Is there help on route in case I have problems?
Yes, we will have a back up service and marshals at the back to make sure no-one gets left behind. You should carry a toolkit and spare inner tubes to carry out your own repairs.
Is the route clearly sign posted?
It is the best signposted long distance ride in Britain. The C2C is the nation’s most popular route and has been up and running for 14 years now.
Can anyone take part?
Yes, but if you are under 16 you are required by law to cycle with a responsible adult.
What about accommodation if I travel up the day before?
The Coast to Coast Cycle Routes book (Baytree Press – see onsite webshop) has a list of accommodation providers, as does the C2C-guide.co.uk website. We will endeavour to have some cycle friendly establishments on hand for the night of Friday July 10.
If it rains?
It’ll cool you down. We advise you to carry a light weight, waterproof shell.
